"The Sons of Zeus" - 11/28/2009

"The Sons of Zeus"
11/28/2009

There was a lot more to this one than I remember, but it seemingly began as I was walking through the mall with someone. I think it was JH. There was a new brand of Coca-Cola out, and I figured I'd try it out. A small display, with a bunch of viewing cases, sat at the head of one of the aisles. It had a horror movie theme and was being hyped as the official Freddy Krueger drink or something. We each picked up a bottle off of the stand and started drinking it while we walked around the store. Shortly afterward, we gradually started hallucinating. At first, I could hear what sounded like Krueger's voice, just bantering on about something or other in my head. It almost sounded like a commercial voice-over, the way he was just rambling on about some generic pitch for a product I don't remember. This left me a bit disoriented at first, but wasn't really all that bad.

After that, though, was when the 'advertisement's' visuals  kicked in. Oh, it was a whole, different ball game, then. We started seeing the most gruesome, horror-film-grade images flashing through our heads - of people dying and all other types of mayhem, all around us. We were at least aware enough to realize that these were just hallucinations, but it took some time. Enduring all of these visuals, we staggered out into the parking lot, trying to find my car, still fighting off seeing flashes of people getting killed in the parking lot as we walked through it.

(My recollection of the dream then skipped ahead, and I was in a completely different setting. I'm not sure if it was representative of me still 'hallucinating' what I had been seeing previously, but it didn't feel like it was a different dream...) I was standing on a high mountain. The sky was just reaching the  golden glow of evening, and the sun was sitting off to me right side. The mountain I was standing on turned out to be a massive, carved, stone statue of a warrior sitting on a throne. The structure was so big, that I was standing on just the figure's forearm, looking over at the enormous, helmeted head a few dozen yards away. A barren wasteland of rock sat a few hundred feet below.

The statue was one of Zeus. Staring at the huge head of the god, I continued to hear the monologue-like voice playing in my head. But, at this time, instead of Freddy Kreuger's voice, it was Zeus's own. He was telling me something about his sons, and their present rite of passage. They were going to have to work their way into human bodies (via possession), so that he could somehow regain his influence over the earth. He told me that I was to help them succeed in their mission, by luring humans into situations where they could be assimilated, and taken over by Zeus's sons, bringing their spirits to earth. Suddenly, I was ejected from my spot on the statue, and placed somewhere out in the expansive, desert-like field before it. There, I met his trio of sons. Two of them just kind of walked into view. Then, there was a crack of thunder and a single lightning bolt touched the ground right beside the two young men. Another figure stood at the point of impact, Zeus's third son. Each one of them was storm-based elemental. I believe the first two were of Rain and Thunder. The last - standing there with sporadic bursts of electricity crackling around his person - was, apparently, Lightning. I was teleported back to "normal Earth", and forced to help them all carry out their plan.

Things skipped ahead, and I was eventually swimming out into the middle of the ocean, luring a couple of people out there with me. It was storming, and lightning was flashing from all directions. I don't remember how it was I lured the strangers into the water, but once I got them out far enough, I gave a signal for Zeus's sons to close the deal. Suddenly, a single bolt of lightning crashed down from the sky. It struck one of the strangers in the water, and electrocuted him on impact. The mortal was dead, and Lightning now inhabited his body. Somehow, I'd gotten another one of the strangers to drown. I was under the water, and I saw the man get swallowed up by a cloud of bubbles, as if the water itself had closed in on him. The man suffocated, and Rain took his body. I don't remember how Thunder got his form. There was a lot more to this dream, but I don't remember anything else.

"To Catch a Griffin" - 07/29/2017 (Lucid)

Dream #3
(Lucid)

*Original artwork, based on dream*

(This was dream #3, during a night of slipping in and out of lucid dreams.)

I had already become lucid, in a previous dream, and the first thing I remember about this one is already having known I was dreaming, while exploring an old, medieval-looking village. For some time, I had been just roaming around, talking to people and taking in the environment. At some point, I came upon a chamber, which supposedly held some mystical and magical relics from the town. In it, I found a book, and I began flipping through it and experimenting with some of the spells inside. I eventually – and mistakenly - wound up releasing an enormous, reckless and destructive griffin upon the town. Having not really thought much of this new development, I just continued to roam about the town, while the griffin flew around, overhead, periodically diving down and smashing into some of the surrounding building, destroying village around me at its whim.

Later, I had come upon a tavern or inn. It was in this location, that I was approached by some shady characters whom, then, took turns trying to attack me. I don’t remember much of my encounters with them, but I remember that they weren’t able to do very much to me, in my lucid state. Before long, they conceded in trying and told me that they were trying to assassinate me for having brought destruction upon their town, in the form of the griffin. Despite knowing that this was a dream, I felt slightly bad at having caused this chain of narrative events, so I decided to try to reconcile by taking down the griffin for them.

A few of the would-be assassins and I walked outside and looked across a stretch of land where large portions of stone and wooden buildings lay in ruins; the griffin circled about, over the destruction. I suppose I could have simply tried to “erase” the griffin but, instead, I decided to conjure up something to taken down with a little more…spectacle.

I held my hand up and focused on manifesting something that would be able to take the griffin down… A dragon came to mind. Seconds later, a dragon – just as big, if not bigger than the griffin – streaked into view, and the two of them began dog-fighting over the village. Aside from a few subtle gestures of control from me, the dragon acted pretty much on its own, and the people and I simply watched from the ground while the two fought.

(I don’t remember the outcome of the battle, though.)

"High Tide" - 10/01/2017 (Lucid)

"High Tide"

Dream Fragment #1
(Lucid)

(I woke up at about 10 am and tried a WBTB, this morning.)

I know that there was much going on, in the beginning of this dream, but most of it is lost. What I do remember is being on the beach, sometime shortly after I realized I was dreaming. My initial thought was that I was at home in bed, but I remembered that I was at was sleeping at my girlfriend's house, instead, and I was proud to be able to remember that distinction.

I walked up the shoreline, about 20 yards away from the surf, repeating to myself that I was dreaming and trying to think of something to do with my lucidity. Looking over at the surf, I wanted to shift my track to walk with my feet in the water, but then I got to thinking about the conversation I was recently having about my apprehension with open water. Refusing to be intimidated by this, in my lucid state, I basically said "screw it," and walked over to the water. The waves were rolling in, maybe about 3 feet high, at first. After some time, though, the tide started pushing more and more passed me. Soon, what were 3 foot swells increased to about 4 feet. I thought it might be a good idea to get back out of the water, before it got even more intense. Then (like clockwork), an enormous wave - easily a dozen feet high - washed over my head and submerged me. When I surfaced, I saw that I was now about a mile away from the newly flooded shore.

Having already had enough of this watery BS, but perfectly accepting of the fact that I'd brought it upon myself, I levitated myself straight up out of the water and began flying back toward the shore, at a pace a little more leisurely than I was comfortable with; again, since I was now surrounded by ocean, on all sides. Trying to fly faster, I was only able to will myself into short bursts of speed, before my pace would slow, and I'd have to 'burst' forward, once again.

Soon, I was back on the partially-crowded beach. I stopped myself, in order to try to replay the events of my dream in my head, so I wouldn't easily forget them when I woke up. Somewhere after this, I lost lucidity. The dream kept going, but I really wasn't able to retain anything, upon waking, besides those few moments of being lucid at the beach.
