"The Incredible Hero" - 02/19/2007

”The Incredible Hero”
02/19/2007

This dream was centered around the “Heroes” TV show characters: D.L. and his son, Micah. It started off with D.L. having an argument with some woman - who wasn’t Micah’s mom - in a house. If I’m not mistaken, he was looking for Micah and thought the woman had information, about where he was, that she just wasn’t giving up. At the same time, Micah was looking for his dad and came upon the house at just about the same time this was happening. Before seeing Micah, D.L. had had enough of the woman’s holding out on him, and he shoved his hand through her chest (he has the power to phase through solid objects) to stop her heart, like he did to Micah’s mom in one of the episodes. My perspective then switched to Micah’s point of view as he came in through the door and saw his dad killing this woman.

Suddenly, time stopped, and then things began to reverse. Micah had altered time with his mind (a power that one of the other “heroes” has) and everything rewound until before D.L. shoved his arm into the woman. Instead of walking in through the door, this time, Micah just suddenly appeared in between D.L. and the woman, stopping his dad’s arm from reaching her. They were all happy that they’d reunited and the scene switched a little bit, from there.

(Enter: …Jim Carrey?)

So, Jim Carrey comes into this dream. He was driving an old pick-up truck and he had disguised himself as some sort of utilities worker, or something. I (being the disembodied observer) knew that his real reason for pulling up to this house was because he was looking for people with these amazing abilities, in order to study them and perform all kinds of experiments on them. For what purpose, I don’t know. He knocked on the door and everyone inside scattered into hiding places. After no one answered, he just walked in the home.

For a while he started looking around the place, searching for any clues that would help his cause. At some points, around this time, I got the feeling that I was actually another character that was with Jim - not just a disembodied observer. I remember that I’d caught a glimpse of Micah, hiding beneath a counter, and I actually made a conscious decision to duck down and get a better look. When I saw him, Jim automatically knew he was there, and he went to get the kid. My perspective then changed back to, simply, watching. He’d gone to pull young Micah out from his hiding spot, but D.L. came in and told him to leave the kid alone. Jim started talking about how he knew the kid had powers and was doing research on people like them.

Sooner or later - somehow - he’d earned their trust, and they were telling him about some of the stuff that Micah could do. One of the powers they mentioned was how he grew in size and strength, whenever his adrenaline started pumping. They walked outside and were showing Jim that their car had a custom sunroof over the backseat so, if ever Micah got pissed off, while in the car, it could accommodate his size (which I think is hilarious). So, in telling the story of one of the times that had actually happened, little Micah climbed in through the backseat and then climbs up out of the sunroof, now standing on top of the car and telling his story. While he was up there, though, he suddenly slipped and fell, straight to the ground, and face-planted so hard that you’d think it would have killed him. He started groaning and slowly began to stand up. D.L. was running over to him, when the boy started breathing really heavy. He started screaming “It’s happening! No!!” and I could see that the boy's right hand had turned green and about tripled in size.

D.L. started freaking out and grabbed a bunch Micah’s toys, trying to “force” him to play with him. Nervous, Jim said “What are you doing?” D.L. answered “We have to get him to calm down! If he starts having fun, it’ll reverse the transformation!” He threw a ball to Micah, but the boy was already too far gone. The ball just fell as the boy started growing bigger and bigger, green skin covering his body, and the high-pitched yell of a young boy morphing into a low, monstrous roar. The kid had just turned into the Incredible Hulk.

Then, seriously pissed off (as usual), the Hulk took a few quick steps away from Jim and D.L. and then leaped about a hundred feet into the air, arcing over the surrounding houses and disappearing toward the horizon. Jim (and I think D.L., too) got into the pick-up truck and started chasing after the boy/Hulk.

There is a large gap in my recall right here but, somehow, the scenario changed to where the Hulk was now mad at Jim. (I think he figured out that Jim actually had some sinister plan behind his reason for studying people with powers.) Whatever the case, Jim was now driving like a maniac through the streets, in this pick-up, looking over his shoulder with this terrified look on his face. In a pretty impressive display of mental cinematography, my perspective was hovering over the hood of Jim's truck, looking straight at his face as he drove. In the background, after he’d turned onto another street, this tiny speck in the sky came soaring closer. The closer it got, the bigger it got. Finally, just a few feet behind Jim’s truck, the Hulk, which had obviously jumped from a few miles away, smashed down onto the street, running after Jim Carrey’s truck and smashing every damn thing in his path. Just that part alone was the highlight of the dream because it was freaking Awesome. Lol. Other than that, the only thing I really remember is one point where Jim was in the bed of the truck, hanging on for dear life as the truck was being picked up off the ground by the - now even bigger than before - Hulk.

That’s about it.

"FA's on Elm Street" - 11/04/2017 (Lucid)

"FA's on Elm Street"
11/04/2017
(Lucid + False Awakenings)

(I woke up early and attempted at WBTB.)

The first thing I remember, within the dream, is being in a forest area. Walking about the brush, something had triggered me to realize I was dreaming, but I can’t recall whether it was actually the dream content or if it was spontaneous. I looked down at my hands, in order to stabilize the dream, which both appeared bloated and waterlogged. Then, I reached down into my pocket and pulled out my totem (my singing magnet. I recently broke the magnetic ring I was previously using). Staring into it, I could see that the reflection was distorted, but I couldn’t make out anything specific within it.

With nothing specific planned for my lucidity, I started trying to fly, floating up through the trees and ascending above the canopy. It was pretty much forest, all around, and I wanted to try to get to somewhere a little more modernized, in order to explore. Trying to fly over the forest, as fast as possible, I had some (rather typical) trouble with reaching significant speed.

The scenery soon changed and I was inside someone’s house. I was still lucid, and there was a mid-sized dog, here, that kept attacking me. I had no fear of the dog, but it was relentless and aggravating. Each time it would come in toward me, I would grab its snout and just shove it away. Sometimes, it would chomp down on my hand but, while it was slightly painful, it was, really, little more than irritating. Getting more and more fed up, I attempted to use a DBZ-style power-up and threw my fists down and head back, letting out a loud yell and imagining the energy pushing out from my center. A moderate blast of air expanded outward from me, giving the dog a short pause but, ultimately, not deterring it long, before it was moving in and nipping at me again.

Shortly after this annoying ordeal, seemingly in the same house, I was following a group of people down a hallway. I have the feeling that we were either fleeing something or being herded toward something else. After what seemed like a short moment of being completely immersed in what was going on, I remembered that I was still dreaming. We were passing a painting on a wall – of some sort of living room or den. Looking for another change of scenery, I sunk my hands into the painting, as if it were made of liquid, and pulled myself through it. Now, inside the den depicted in the tapestry, I looked at my hands, again, solidifying in the new scene. (I don't recall anything strange about the way they looked.) The lighting, here, was very dark and somewhat spooky.

Apprehensive about exploring this area, it didn’t take very long before I came across Freddy Krueger. He would continuously make crazy, nightmarish things happen, and then I would attempt to maintain my lucidity, but he would keep making me forget that I was dreaming, and sometimes this would result in a change of scenery or a false awakening. On the times when things would seem completely normal, and as if I was back in the waking world, one of my friends (not sure who it was, but it was a guy with black hair) would drop some sort of hint or otherwise help me realize that I was still dreaming. To confirm it, I would do a reality check, such as using telekinesis on nearby objects, and I would become lucid again. Each time I would regain lucidity, Krueger would show up, again, and try to scare me back out of it.

These loops happened 3 or 4 times, and my black-haired friend was present during each “reset,” and would continue to try to help me remember that I was dreaming. I don't remember much about the details about my actual encounters with Freddy, though. It was more about sort of "atmospheric" evil situations happening, and then he would show up, in the end, and take credit for them. (Kind of like Pennywise, in the new "IT," movie, now that I think about it.)

"The Sons of Zeus" - 11/28/2009

"The Sons of Zeus"
11/28/2009

There was a lot more to this one than I remember, but it seemingly began as I was walking through the mall with someone. I think it was JH. There was a new brand of Coca-Cola out, and I figured I'd try it out. A small display, with a bunch of viewing cases, sat at the head of one of the aisles. It had a horror movie theme and was being hyped as the official Freddy Krueger drink or something. We each picked up a bottle off of the stand and started drinking it while we walked around the store. Shortly afterward, we gradually started hallucinating. At first, I could hear what sounded like Krueger's voice, just bantering on about something or other in my head. It almost sounded like a commercial voice-over, the way he was just rambling on about some generic pitch for a product I don't remember. This left me a bit disoriented at first, but wasn't really all that bad.

After that, though, was when the 'advertisement's' visuals  kicked in. Oh, it was a whole, different ball game, then. We started seeing the most gruesome, horror-film-grade images flashing through our heads - of people dying and all other types of mayhem, all around us. We were at least aware enough to realize that these were just hallucinations, but it took some time. Enduring all of these visuals, we staggered out into the parking lot, trying to find my car, still fighting off seeing flashes of people getting killed in the parking lot as we walked through it.

(My recollection of the dream then skipped ahead, and I was in a completely different setting. I'm not sure if it was representative of me still 'hallucinating' what I had been seeing previously, but it didn't feel like it was a different dream...) I was standing on a high mountain. The sky was just reaching the  golden glow of evening, and the sun was sitting off to me right side. The mountain I was standing on turned out to be a massive, carved, stone statue of a warrior sitting on a throne. The structure was so big, that I was standing on just the figure's forearm, looking over at the enormous, helmeted head a few dozen yards away. A barren wasteland of rock sat a few hundred feet below.

The statue was one of Zeus. Staring at the huge head of the god, I continued to hear the monologue-like voice playing in my head. But, at this time, instead of Freddy Kreuger's voice, it was Zeus's own. He was telling me something about his sons, and their present rite of passage. They were going to have to work their way into human bodies (via possession), so that he could somehow regain his influence over the earth. He told me that I was to help them succeed in their mission, by luring humans into situations where they could be assimilated, and taken over by Zeus's sons, bringing their spirits to earth. Suddenly, I was ejected from my spot on the statue, and placed somewhere out in the expansive, desert-like field before it. There, I met his trio of sons. Two of them just kind of walked into view. Then, there was a crack of thunder and a single lightning bolt touched the ground right beside the two young men. Another figure stood at the point of impact, Zeus's third son. Each one of them was storm-based elemental. I believe the first two were of Rain and Thunder. The last - standing there with sporadic bursts of electricity crackling around his person - was, apparently, Lightning. I was teleported back to "normal Earth", and forced to help them all carry out their plan.

Things skipped ahead, and I was eventually swimming out into the middle of the ocean, luring a couple of people out there with me. It was storming, and lightning was flashing from all directions. I don't remember how it was I lured the strangers into the water, but once I got them out far enough, I gave a signal for Zeus's sons to close the deal. Suddenly, a single bolt of lightning crashed down from the sky. It struck one of the strangers in the water, and electrocuted him on impact. The mortal was dead, and Lightning now inhabited his body. Somehow, I'd gotten another one of the strangers to drown. I was under the water, and I saw the man get swallowed up by a cloud of bubbles, as if the water itself had closed in on him. The man suffocated, and Rain took his body. I don't remember how Thunder got his form. There was a lot more to this dream, but I don't remember anything else.

"To Catch a Griffin" - 07/29/2017 (Lucid)

“To Catch a Griffin”
07/29/2017
Dream #3
(Lucid)

*Original artwork, based on dream*

(This was dream #3, during a night of slipping in and out of lucid dreams.)

I had already become lucid, in a previous dream, and the first thing I remember about this one is already having known I was dreaming, while exploring an old, medieval-looking village. For some time, I had been just roaming around, talking to people and taking in the environment. At some point, I came upon a chamber, which supposedly held some mystical and magical relics from the town. In it, I found a book, and I began flipping through it and experimenting with some of the spells inside. I eventually – and mistakenly - wound up releasing an enormous, reckless and destructive griffin upon the town. Having not really thought much of this new development, I just continued to roam about the town, while the griffin flew around, overhead, periodically diving down and smashing into some of the surrounding building, destroying village around me at its whim.

Later, I had come upon a tavern or inn. It was in this location, that I was approached by some shady characters whom, then, took turns trying to attack me. I don’t remember much of my encounters with them, but I remember that they weren’t able to do very much to me, in my lucid state. Before long, they conceded in trying and told me that they were trying to assassinate me for having brought destruction upon their town, in the form of the griffin. Despite knowing that this was a dream, I felt slightly bad at having caused this chain of narrative events, so I decided to try to reconcile by taking down the griffin for them.

A few of the would-be assassins and I walked outside and looked across a stretch of land where large portions of stone and wooden buildings lay in ruins; the griffin circled about, over the destruction. I suppose I could have simply tried to “erase” the griffin but, instead, I decided to conjure up something to taken down with a little more…spectacle.

I held my hand up and focused on manifesting something that would be able to take the griffin down… A dragon came to mind. Seconds later, a dragon – just as big, if not bigger than the griffin – streaked into view, and the two of them began dog-fighting over the village. Aside from a few subtle gestures of control from me, the dragon acted pretty much on its own, and the people and I simply watched from the ground while the two fought.

(I don’t remember the outcome of the battle, though.)

"High Tide" - 10/01/2017 (Lucid)

"High Tide"
10/01/2017
Dream Fragment #1
(Lucid)

(I woke up at about 10 am and tried a WBTB, this morning.)

I know that there was much going on, in the beginning of this dream, but most of it is lost. What I do remember is being on the beach, sometime shortly after I realized I was dreaming. My initial thought was that I was at home in bed, but I remembered that I was at was sleeping at my girlfriend's house, instead, and I was proud to be able to remember that distinction.

I walked up the shoreline, about 20 yards away from the surf, repeating to myself that I was dreaming and trying to think of something to do with my lucidity. Looking over at the surf, I wanted to shift my track to walk with my feet in the water, but then I got to thinking about the conversation I was recently having about my apprehension with open water. Refusing to be intimidated by this, in my lucid state, I basically said "screw it," and walked over to the water. The waves were rolling in, maybe about 3 feet high, at first. After some time, though, the tide started pushing more and more passed me. Soon, what were 3 foot swells increased to about 4 feet. I thought it might be a good idea to get back out of the water, before it got even more intense. Then (like clockwork), an enormous wave - easily a dozen feet high - washed over my head and submerged me. When I surfaced, I saw that I was now about a mile away from the newly flooded shore.

Having already had enough of this watery BS, but perfectly accepting of the fact that I'd brought it upon myself, I levitated myself straight up out of the water and began flying back toward the shore, at a pace a little more leisurely than I was comfortable with; again, since I was now surrounded by ocean, on all sides. Trying to fly faster, I was only able to will myself into short bursts of speed, before my pace would slow, and I'd have to 'burst' forward, once again.

Soon, I was back on the partially-crowded beach. I stopped myself, in order to try to replay the events of my dream in my head, so I wouldn't easily forget them when I woke up. Somewhere after this, I lost lucidity. The dream kept going, but I really wasn't able to retain anything, upon waking, besides those few moments of being lucid at the beach.

"Pencildragon" - 01/17/2017 (Lucid)

"Pencildragon"
01/17/2017
Dream #2
(Lucid)

I was at some outdoor carnival or festival, held out in some rural field at dusk. Munching on cotton candy while I walked, I spontaneously realized that I was dreaming. Immediately, I was surprised at how much I could smell and taste the cotton candy (I have very few experiences with tastes and smells in lucid dreams), and even though the dream already felt very clear and grounded, I decided to take a few moments to touch my surroundings, running my hand along the wooden frame of a wooden kiosk nearby. Raising my free hand up in front of my face, I saw that my fingers were very wavy, which was a bit at odds with the solidity of everything else around me.

Quickly, I tried to think of what I had planned to do with my lucidity once attained it, before I'd gone to bed. I remembered the Dreamviews.com 'Tasks of the Month' and that I wanted to try the pencil task (which was to "ask a pencil to draw something for you"). I turned back to the kiosk, expecting to find a pad and pencil there, in which I could do the experiment. Sitting atop the counter, I found a pad and a few, loose, colored pencils. I picked up one pencil - blue, I believe - and set it in the center of the pad. Without speaking, I attempted to "will" the pencil to draw something for me. The only thing I remember, about the actual process, was the pencil moving back and forth and making a few scribbles, but it ended up drawing a (quite simplistic) dragon. (One of the art pieces I have been brainstorming on, in waking life, has been a dragon. I haven't yet drawn the final draft, but I did draw a dragon thumbnail, about a week ago).

Satisfied that I had completed the task, I took to the air and flew away from the carnival to do some exploring. While flying over the wide, green fields of the early evening countryside, I looked below me to see an actual dragon, roaming around the landscape and idly blowing plumes of fire at random. It had sort of a cartoonish, video game feel to it (I had been playing PlayStation VR, before bed - no dragon games, though), and felt as if it was just a manifestation of the dragon that was drawn on the paper. I decided not to bother with the creature and continued flying over the field. I don't really remember anything afterward.

"Cancelling the Apocalypse" - 01/11/2017 (Lucid)

"Cancelling the Apocalypse"
01/11/2017
Dream Two
(Lucid)

I was with two other guys, and we were being stalked by the Marvel super-villain, Apocalypse. We were in some tall, unfinished building, surrounded by a cage of open walls and concrete pillars. Apocalypse had this very "Jason Voorhees" type of way of following us; slowly and almost casually, before just 'appearing' nearby, to try and attack us. (I had been watching beta gameplay from the new Friday the 13th game, not long before bed, which I believe inspired the way he gave chase in the dream.)

On about the 3rd floor of this hollow building structure, Apocalypse appeared and snatched up of the guys in our party, disappearing with him and reappearing somewhere down on the first floor. We could see him through the many openings in the incomplete floors beneath us, holding our ally up by the throat, with his back against one of the support columns. I can't remember exactly what he did to our guy, but I remember it being very vicious and gory, as if he just ripped him apart, with his bare hands, in a shower of blood. Knowing it was too late to do anything about it, we started running again, and before I had a chance to even know where I was going, Apocalypse was back on the third(ish) floor with us, stepping out from behind a corner just as I passed by, and coming straight for me. Having no time to think of a safe escape, and after having seen what he just did to the other guy, I immediately lept from the ledge that I was approaching, still about 3 storeys up - basically resigning to the fact that I was Not going to enjoy the landing.

In a panic, while careening toward the ground below me and preparing for the inevitable onslaught of pain and possible broken bones that awaited, I instinctively realized that this couldn't really be about to happen. This had to be a dream!! Without a moment to second-guess it, I pushed my feet straight down and braced for impact, relieved when I stuck the landing in an almost effortless crouch. I knew that Apocalypse would soon follow behind me, though, so I instinctively lunged backward, throwing my right elbow back and cracking him in the face with it, when he predictably showed up behind me. (Not sure if he was always going to be there, or if my anticipating him being behind me caused him to just 'be there'.)

I didn't stop, though, immediately turning around and rushing him with a barrage of punching combinations to the head and gut, confidently and aggressively driving him back with each solid hit. While in mid-attack, I wondered if I should not get too carried away and try stabilizing the dream before it ended or I lost my lucidity, but I was fired up and didn't want to stop hitting him. It was only a matter of seconds, though, before the dream fell apart and I woke up.

"Ring Totem" - 01/07/2017 (Lucid)

For a while, now, I have been experimenting with using a "totem," inspired by the movie Inception, but without the "shared dreaming" aspect that they use in the movie's fictional world. For the purpose of lucid dreaming, the totem is an object to carry around with you, in waking life, as a reminder to constantly be aware of the concept of lucid dreaming. It can be something to focus on, periodically, while doing reality checks and testing my state, with the goal of having the habit work its way into my dreams and make it more likely that I will associate it with lucid dreaming and realize that I'm dreaming at the time.

My totem is a "magician's ring." (Pictured below.) I constantly rub my fingers on it (similar to touching objects in order to stabilize a dream) and question my conscious state throughout the day. I enjoy that it is magnetic, because it will often "interact" with things without warning, causing me to automatically think about lucid dreaming and spontaneously check my state whenever it happens. The latest bit of success I'd had was in realizing I was dreaming while walking through a hallway at work, where I normally focus on my totem and question my state.

"Ring Totem"
01/07/2017
(Lucid)

My earliest memory of this dream was having sex with my girlfriend on the living room couch. Afterward, we were continuing to be flirty in the kitchen, and I went to pick her up by her waist and set her on the counter. When I did so, I realized that she was light as a feather - almost totally weightless. Because of this, I realized that I was dreaming. (I'm glad that she was understanding, when I told her about that part. Lol.)

Once lucid, I set her down and began to roam about the kitchen, trying to think of what I wanted to do with my lucidity. My usual, first order of business is to stabilize the dream, so I reached out to the wall and ran my fingers along it, taking in the texture and paying a good bit of attention to it. Then, I remembered my totem. I held up my right hand and began to rub my ring with my thumb, looking down at the inscription and anticipating at least some sort of change. (The ring in the pic above is my actual ring.) The text began to glow a bright white, and it helped me to remember that I wanted to try out the ring as something of a conduit for dream "powers".

The room had changed, and I was now walking through an area with other people. Stepping up to one, random DC, I held up my hand, palm out, and attempted to conjure fire from the ring. I got nothing, though. Curious as to whether or not I would find a different hand position more comfortable, I made my hand into a fist and held that out to the nearest person to me, instead. My attempts to shoot flames from the ring had - again - failed, and I got a little frustrated. The last thing I remember was trying a few more methods to conjure fire before the dream, itself, faded, and I woke up.

"Hallway to Haven" - 01/02/2017 (Lucid)

"Hallway to Haven"
01/02/2017
Dream #1
(Lucid)

I was walking through a tile and concrete hallway, metal doors and drawers lining the walls, with the feeling that someone(s) was following behind, searching for me. Eventually, while searching for somewhere to hide, I realized that I was dreaming. (Upon going to work, this afternoon, I recognized the hallway in my dream to be the parking garage hallway I normally do my reality checks in, when I'm entering or leaving the office.)

The first thing I could think of to do, with my lucidity, was touch one of the concrete structures and ground myself into the dream. Then, I decided to try and change the scenery. Since I've had pretty good luck with creating and utilizing doorways, I turned to the wall and pulled open one of the panels, imagining that there would be some other, random scene within. I don't believe I waited to see if anything showed up, visually. I just moved my head in and 'dove' into the opening, focusing on the intention to simply 'be somewhere else.'

My forward momentum turned into a headlong dive, and I immediately found myself flying over dark blue ocean in midday. I was moving at a high speed trying to keep myself above the surface of the water. I could sense the feeling of being over the ocean becoming more and more overwhelming, and the water, itself - already a strange and almost 'fake-looking' hue of opaque, navy blue - began to form long strands or tendrils, that rose up from the surface like tentacles as I flew just over it. The entire ocean looked a bit like ferrofluid, writhing and undulating beneath me, and it was starting to freak me out.

I turned to find land, and saw a large landmass in the distance, completely surrounded by water. I flew closer and saw that it was a sort of plateau, with a raised center. The entirety of the surface was covered with lush, green jungle, leading up at a gentle incline - over what seemed like a few dozen square miles - to a central point in the center that housed some sort of large castle or fortress. The closer I got to the raised structure at the middle of the landmass, the more I could see that there was something flying about it, circling over the top of the building. A dragon.

The moment I recognized this dragon for what it was, I got the feeling that there was something large coming up behind me - possibly flying, but that could have been moving through the water but standing tall enough to feel like it was breathing down my neck as I flew. Still flying to the island, now trying to escape what was behind me more than what was in front, I saw that all of the color from the jungle trees and tropical landscape was beginning to 'drain' down off of the mountainous incline upon which the building sat. All of the greens and purples, browns and reds that made up the jungle beneath me now began to run like dyed water, down to the ocean that surrounded the island. (It reminded me very much of the painted field from What Dreams May Come, but after someone would have thrown a glass of water on it.)

I don't remember ever touching down on the island or making it to the building.
