"Meet the Overprotective Parents" - 05/19/2010 (Lucid)

"Meet the Overprotective Parents"
05/19/2010
Dream #1
(Lucid)

I was with some unfamiliar girl, and another couple, and we were all staying in a hotel. While the girl and I never had sex, there was an incredible connection there, and we were all over each other, through the night.

Then, the next morning came, and we immediately found ourselves on the run.

Obviously, I wasn't supposed to be seeing this girl. Her father was a very 'influential' man, and had sent some hired guns to bring her back from me. They had burst into the room, and we had just barely been able to give them the slip, running through the hotel hallways and dashing down the steps. We'd apparently been doing this for some time, having moved from hideout to hideout, and I was beginning to feel that it was only a matter of time before her Dad's men eventually stopped us. In the hotel stairwell, a couple of shots rang out, but none of them hit me. We'd gotten downstairs and were just about to make our way outside, when we finally got cornered.

These men were coming in from all angles, and there was a good number of them. Right then, as if on cue, I realized I was dreaming, and that these guys were no threat to me. Immediately, I stopped running. I turned around and brazenly stalked toward the men who had gathered together. Closing in, I started taunting them, daring them to come at me. For a little self-reassurance, I repeated to myself that this was "only a dream," a couple of times, under my breath (so to speak). The henchmen were completely frozen in shock. They looked at me, and then looked around at each other, neither of them knowing what to do. They had been chasing us all this time, relentlessly, and in turning from prey to predator, I had completely shut down their machine. Nobody wanted a piece, even though they were all armed, and I wasn't.

The dream skipped ahead, and not only was I no longer lucid, but I was no longer myself, at all. I was some random person, at a formal function of some sort, and surrounded by military personnel in suits and dress blues. It seems the parents of the girl that I (my original self) was with had bought off the military. I came to realize that this was after they'd allegedly 'killed' me, and they were all toasting to themselves and discussing my apparent demise. They were laughing at the "insane" way that I had walked up toward them, and challenged them all. While they were discussing the events that had transpired, I actually began remembering them. I remembered everything that had happened to my 'old self'. In doing so, I remembered that I was still dreaming.

All I could think about was how hilarious this was. They were all sitting here, kissing their own asses at having killed me, not knowing that I (or, at least, my consciousness) was actually right here in the room with them. I stood up, out of my seat, and promptly jumped up on the large table, in the center of the room, attracting everyone's attention. Then, I belted out an announcement that I was that same guy that they were currently talking about. I explained that I had switched bodies, and was just dropping in on them, to listen to them gloat about their false victory.

Once again, all of these Dream Characters were instantly terrified. I went back to taunting them, just as before, daring them to try to take me down. As if by instinct, those of the audience members who were soldiers - though still in their dress blues - took formations and drew whatever firearms they had. Completely full of myself, I stepped down off the table and strolled over to them at random, disarming them with some textbook grapples. Stripping the last guy of his gun and hanging onto it, myself. I spun the pistol around the room and declared, in all of my invincible glory, that I was going to 'kill' each and every one of them. I then took a brief moment to look at my free hand, in order to stabilize the dream. I noticed that my fingers were gone - worn down to the numbs, beneath the first joints.

I probably should have taken longer to stare at my hand, because I wasn't exactly able to bring the dream into greater clarity before a single person suddenly bolted for the door. Without hesitation, and forgetting about trying to ground myself into the dream, I slung my arm in his direction and shot him in the back. He went down hard, and the entire room erupted in panic.

Unfortunately, the dream completely unraveled here, and I don't think there was anything after this.

"Murder at the Marina" - 04/05/2010

"Murder at the Marina"
04/05/2010

I was a cop, in this dream, who worked at a busy marina or aquatic theme park. I had a couple of very close partners, who worked along with me, and we ran a pretty tight ship. We had caught wind that there was a killer on the loose in the park. He was wearing a wet suit, to conceal himself in the water, and had already ambushed at least one, seemingly random, victim. At different points in the dream, he was armed with a machine gun, a pistol and a speargun, and he was one crafty bastard. My partners and I spent a long time chasing him all over the marina/park, and just when we'd think we had him cornered, and would fire off round into his perceived hiding places, he would turn up somewhere else. It became an endless cat-and-mouse, and we were constantly running out of ammunition, having to scramble around the park to find more.

At one point, we were in a particular shootout with him, where a huge, banner/flag, with florescent lights all over it, got shot down from above my head. I looked up and saw it coming down on me, and I dove out of the way, just in time. Hitting the dirt, I rolled under a wooden deck next to me just as the banner smashed to the ground and erupted into a bright shower of electrical sparks. The sparks instantly ignited the fabric, and the enormous banner was immediately engulfed in flames, billowing all over the deck that I was under. It didn't take long before the deck had caught fire as well, and I was left to crawl frantically out from under the structure before I, too, was to be consumed in fire. I remember being in contact with a military frigate (or something) that was just offshore. I asked them if they had any assault rifles on board, and was loaned one with no questions asked. While getting the gun, I remember hearing something about a stowed 'engine' being on board, which was so hot that stepping in front of it would instantly turn you to dust. I don't think it really played a role in the dream, otherwise, though.

The chase eventually was on, again, and we were all shooting into the water, where we'd last seen the guy. When I ran out of ammo for automatic rifle, I was able to find a speargun, which I knew I was going to have to be much more conservative with. Word came in that the elusive killer was now on the side of the park which was directly across the section of water near where I was standing. I knew it would take me too long to run down along the walkways, so I ran forward and just dove into the water, spear-gun in hand. My closest partner followed me and we swam, as fast as we could, to the shoreline that had been across from us. When we got out of the water, we looked around for the killer, and I happened to glance back in the direction from which we'd just re-surfaced. Sticking out of the water was the very top of the killer's snorkel.

I assumed he could not yet see me and was just laying low. So, slowly, cautiously, I raised the speargun. I took aim on where his head would have to be, finding it hard to see him clearly, and I fired a bolt into the water. I could immediately tell that I must have hit him in the head, and I watched his snorkel just kind of droop. The killer had to be dead or severely wounded, I thought, but I had to be sure.

Reluctantly, I walked over to the water and began wading back in, toward the black tube that was still protruding from the surface. Just as I was reaching out to touch it, I felt something brush up against my other hand, under water. It was a fin. I was a plastic fin, and it was on the opposite side of me that the snorkel was on. Immediately, I spun around, and the killer exploded out of the water in front of me, his own speargun aimed at my face, and at point blank range. Instinctively, I reached out and grabbed his weapon, wrestling with him for it in a panic. I was never able to get full control of the speargun, but I got his arms in a lock, from behind, and lunged forward. We were close enough to the shore that the man's temple smashed against a nearby rock, knocking him unconscious. Slightly exhausted, I pulled the killer's limp body over to the water's edge, and my partner helped me drag him out onto the shore.

"The Syringe from Hell" - 03/24/2010 (Lucid)

"The Syringe From Hell"
03/24/2010
(Lucid)

I was at work, and my manager, B, was being a major ass to all of the employees. We had a blue beach ball, that we were bouncing around the room to each other, and he just came by and stabbed with a knife, letting all of the air out. After a while, I got fed up and got in his face about being such a prick, for no reason. We had some huge argument, and he ended up apologizing, but I refused to accept his apology and kept laying into him.

When I'd eventually had enough, I stormed outside the call center and started walking down the street. Some old woman casually began walking right beside me, and we talked for a moment. In the most straight-forward way, she told me that she was a ghostly-spirit, and that she was sent here to give me something. In her hand, she held a syringe, informing me that I had to take the shot of whatever she had, without question. Of course, there was absolutely no way that I was just going to let this woman stick me with anything, and I told her so. She said that I didn't have a choice, and that I had to take it, no matter what.

Becoming increasingly alarmed at where this situation might lead, I quickly came to the realization that this was insane, and could not really be happening. I knew I was dreaming. Immediately, I tried to focus on the syringe and, with telekinesis, pull it out of her hand. She gripped tight, though, and I wasn't able to move it. Aware of my attempt, and still walking at my side, she told me that I would not be able to pull it from her hand, because she was actually a demon, and I wasn't strong enough. Swiftly, I tried to disorient her by spinning her around (though I can't remember if I did this with my hands or my mind). Once I rotated her off balance, I made another telekinetic swat at the syringe. My mind knocked the needle from the old woman's fingers, and it stuck, needle-first, into the fence beside us. We both lunged for it, and I grabbed it before she did. When I held the needle up to take a look at it, I could see that the tip was now made of plastic or rubber. Whatever it was, it didn't seem like it could even penetrate human flesh - let alone the fence post I'd just pulled it out of.

That's all I remember.

"Giving the Devil His Due" - 02/04/2014 (Lucid)

“Giving the Devil his Due"
02/04/2014
Dream #2
(Lucid)

I was in some sort of lake, in the middle of what looked to be a rather large neighborhood of multi-level apartments or condos. There were two companions with me - one male, and one female - who were dressed in sort of 'warriors' garb', and we were swimming across the lake, from one bank to another, beneath the clear, blue water. (I had been watching Thor 2, last night, and they seemed to be dressed in something Asgardians would wear.)

A low rumble cut through our swim, thundering from beneath us. Rock and silt began jetting up from the lake floor. At the bottom - which was maybe 20 ft deep or so - the ground began to give way, as if a massive sinkhole were opening up beneath the lake bed. Before long, I could tell that everything was actually getting sucked into this growing hole, like water flowing down a drain. We all began swimming as fast as we could toward the shore. Once close enough, we used our hands and feet to grip the lake floor and propel ourselves forward, faster than we were able to tread water. This did very little to help, though, as the ground, itself, began falling away like brittle pieces of dead tree bark. With still another 40 yards or so to go, before reaching the shore, I knew that we weren't going to make it.

I looked back and saw my companions trailing behind me, becoming lost in the silt and sucked down under the earth. I was sure that I would soon follow, but quickly came to the frantic realization that this had to be a dream. Mustering all of the willpower I could, I thrust myself upward, flying out of the water just before the swelling chasm swallowed me up as well. Now hovering over the still-draining lake, I could see that there was a strange, lava-like material that was oozing up out of the widening hole that used to be a lake. It sputtered and writhed about, like the waves of a stormy ocean, beneath me, spanning maybe 1/4 mile in diameter. I felt completely uncomfortable, hovering over this mystery muck, and I began flying toward the shore and tall apartment buildings that surrounded me on 3 of 4 sides. However, my flight was sloppy and sluggish, and I began wondering if I was going to sink down into whatever the hell this stuff was.

No sooner did I wonder about it than I began to see thick, snake-like appendages slithering out through the torrent. I didn't know what the hell it was, but I knew that there was something very large, and very much Alive, swimming about in this stuff that had come up through this hole that had swallowed the entire lake. The sky, I noticed, had turned a deep, fiery orange, as if the day had gone from noon to the most intense sunset in a matter of seconds. Even with my sudden rush of lucidity, the scale of this entire phenomenon was far too intimidating for me, and I scrambled through the air, trying desperately to reach the rooftops of one of the apartment buildings, if only so I could collect my thoughts enough to gain some control over this dream.

Finally, with the sounds of the earth still rumbling behind me, I hovered away from danger and pulled myself up onto the roof in front of me. When I turned around, I saw my two companions on another roof, nearby. They had turned to stone. Then, I caught sight of a gigantic figure slowly rising up from the center of the disturbance. It grew taller and taller - and I more wide-eyed - until the creature towered high over my head, lifting its humanoid torso from its tucked-over position and standing up straight. From as high upon the rooftop as I was, I couldn't even see the beast's feet; all I saw, instead, was the muscular upper-body of the biggest damn monster I could have imagined! Its back faced me, at an angle, but when it turned slowly to one side, and I could see the gigantic horns perched upon its head, I instantly knew that I was looking at the Devil, himself.

Still in awe, but gathering my wits about me, I pulled my eyes away from the demon long enough to stare at my hands, trying to stabilize and ground myself into the dream. I wanted to see where this story was going, and I damn sure didn't want to wake up prematurely. My hands looked wavy and deformed but, after a little concentration, I was able to pull them into focus, making sure to repeat "I'm dreaming. I'm dreaming," in order to keep myself from slipping out of lucidity as well.

Lucifer, lumbering tall above the center of the residential area, surveyed his surroundings, paying no attention to me, but seemingly focusing on the many buildings around him. I couldn't tell what he was doing, but I knew that he was 'up to something'. Thinking it better to stay out of sight, for the moment, I stepped over the edge of the roof and levitated down toward a window, a few feet below me. Looking inside, I saw that a T.V. was on, and I could see the figure of someone watching it, nearby. The T.V. was tuned to the news, and even though I couldn't see the screen, I could hear that there was a female reporter talking about how the apocalypse had just been proven a reality, as Lucifer had revealed himself to the Earth and was turning the populace into vile and hideous demons, by the hundreds. Just as she said this, the person inside had a visitor enter their apartment/condo, and it wasn't until they greeted each other that I could tell they were both deformed creatures, instead of human beings.

Suddenly, they noticed me noticing them. One of them hurriedly rushed toward a wall near the T.V., and lifted up a panel. I instinctively thought it was going for a weapon of some sort, and flew in through the window, immediately dropping my hands out of my field of view and imagining that I was holding a shotgun. The demon whirled around to face me as if taking aim, and I slung my arms back up, squeezing a trigger that wasn’t there and visualizing the shot. Boom. The demon flew back against the wall and slumped to the ground. With the gun now fully-materializing in my hands, I turned to face the other demon and did the same, blasting it away from me. That was when I noticed a third, smaller demon trying to escape the tiny living room. I reached out and grabbed it in both hands, holding it still and taking a good look. An ugly little bastard, who reminded me of a smaller version of the 'Mundus Spawn' in the game Devil May Cry (a boss battle that I spent a long time fighting, while playing DMC, this past Sunday).

Remembering the Dream Views Lucid Task of  the Month of February (which was to ask a dream character who your true love was), I said to the captive Demon “Tell me who my true love is!” With an agitated response, that sounded as if he was just throwing anything out, so that I would let him go, the squirming demon blurted out “The Young One!” I realized that I wasn’t really focusing on the question, when I asked him, and I took this to be some generic answer, which was probably talking about my daughter. I shook the demon, threatening and said something like “not good enough! Who is my true love??” I really focused on the question to mean love in a romantic sense. The demon said something like “[A friend’s name] will be the one who brings her to you!” Though still cryptic, I was satisfied with interpreting this to imply that this ‘True Love’ would be someone I haven’t met, yet, but would meet through this certain friend he named.”

Having gotten what I wanted, I let the demon go, and he scampered away. Still in the apartment, I decided that I should go back up to the roof and see what the giant Devil was doing. However, I wanted to prolong the dream for as long as possible, so I took another look at my hands. Again, they were morphing to and from normal hands, almost as if I were trying to keep from turning into a demon, myself. Once I brought them back into focus, I flew upward and through the ceiling, all the way to the roof. Lucifer, though, was nowhere to be seen.

Then, I felt two giant hands wrap around me from below, and I was suddenly being pulled down through the ceiling and the floors below me. Lucifer had gotten hold of me, and I ‘knew’ that he was about to try and drag me down to Hell. By this time, I had gained all confidence in my lucidity and, for a split-second, I actually thought it might be a fun twist for this dream. I remember yelling something along the lines of “Fine, let’s go on down to Hell!” But then, I realized how hard it might be to remember all of this, once I woke up, and I resisted. I slowed to a stop, coming back to rest in the same apartment in which I’d killed the demons, before.

Determined to get the last laugh, I reached down below me and grabbed for Lucifer’s head, willing for him to no longer be his giant self -which also stripped him of his horns - and pulling him up out of the floor. My final words to him were “actually, let’s not!” and I shoved his head into the T.V., which exploded into a shower of fire and sparks. Surprisingly, he let out an agonizing scream as he was electrocuted, and I immediately woke myself up.

"Balrog Blitz" - 01/30/2014 (Lucid)

“Balrog Blitz”
01/30/2014
Dream #3

(Lucid)

As the dream started, I was hanging out with my mother and daughter, around an unfamiliar house. On the television was a Batman movie, where he was trying to save an area that looked like Times Square from a bomb that was hanging from a crane. The villain seemed to be kind of a mix between Bane from The Dark Knight Rises, and the War-Zone version of thePunisher. The crane was holding up a large shipping crate, and the two adversaries were fighting atop it at night. At some point, during the fight, my perspective sucked me into the movie, and I was right there with them, trying to remove the bomb from the crate while Batman battled the enemy, hand-to-hand. With the crate swinging back and forth, I scrambled around on my stomach, trying to remove the bomb while not falling to my own death.

Just when the bomb was finally within inches of my fingertips, it blew up in my face, and the scene immediately changed.

I was still on the shipping crate, and it was falling from the height of the crane, but it was now the middle of a clear day and, instead of the populated city square, I was now on a beach. In mid-fall from the 100+ ft. crane, I realized that I had to be dreaming and 'pulled up', willing myself into flight. I sunk a few more feet, through the air, and then came to hover over the beach sand while the crate fell to the shoreline below.

Slowly flying upward, I immediately remembered what I wanted to with my lucidity (having tried and failed to do the Lucid Taskof January, in the dream before this one). I knew I needed to find a Balrog of Moria to do battle with but wondered what would be the best way to summon one, in this awkward setting of a crowded beach on a perfect day. Looking out over the ocean, I saw a large plume of black smoke on the horizon. Instantly, I came to the conclusion that I would find a Balrog attacking an oil-drilling platform out there, and I began to fly toward the sea. My excitement was getting the better of me, though, and my flying was really sluggish and sloppy. It would have taken me ages to go that distance, at the rate I was going. Instead, I turned my attention back toward the shore and, pretty much involuntarily, caused a Balrog to appear. Within seconds, it was wreaking havoc on the beach-goers - throwing flaming projectiles at cars, vendors' huts and beach-side restaurants. People were running, screaming and dying, in all directions.

Quickly, I flew down to the feet of the monster - which towered a good 20 ft. above me - and began drawing its attention, evading its attacks and fighting back with telekinetic 'pushes' of my own. During our skirmish, I noticed something coming up out of the ocean, nearby. I knew, instinctively, that it was the Balrog that had attacked the off-shore rig. It was less fire-based - but still threw flames - and it was an absolute Colossus; easily 100 ft or more, compared to the other one, which stood at about 20 or so. Switching my attention from the first Balrog to the second, I flew directly up toward its head, cocked back an arm and unleashed a flying power-punch directly to the beast's face. Its head turned slightly to one side, but then it just glared back at me, ultimately unfazed. Flying higher, I moved just out of the taller one's reach. Hearing another explosion, behind me, I turned to see a third Balrog - just slightly bigger than the first - coming through its own fire, having just obliterated another handful of people who were trying to run away from the chaos.

The last thing I remember vividly, before waking, was hovering somewhat in the middle of this triangle of beasts, trying to think of the best plan of attack.I also know that there was a point where I slung a telekinetic wave of water up and around the biggest Balrog, to try and snuff out some of its flaming attacks, but the details of the rest of the fight are lost.

"A Date with Death" - 01/20/2014

"A Date with Death"
01-20-2014

(In this dream, I was dating a friend of mine, J, from waking life. Unfortunately, it turned out to be one of the worst dreams I've ever had...)

The beginning of the dream started off wonderfully. We were lounging around the house, getting some cuddle-time in, talking about nothing and simply enjoying being close to each other. It couldn't have been more pleasant. Sometime in the early evening, we decided to go out to a restaurant, and I told her I knew of a good steakhouse downtown. We took a good drive out to the city (what city, I don't know), over and through some winding highways, and stopped at a large shopping area with plenty of cafes and restaurants.

I was searching for a 'Ryan's Steakhouse', which is a place I used to love, as a kid, but it was extremely hard to find. We walked in, and through, many different places, as they were all connected, but couldn't find the place I was looking for. Finally, after exiting one building, I looked back and saw a sign which told us that the place we'd just exited was actually the steakhouse I was looking for. When we were about to walk back in, J told me that she had to use the restroom, which was right outside, in a separate building. (The way the places were connected reminded me of most, major theme parks, with their many, intertwined shops and stand-alone bathrooms).

While she went to the ladies' room, I made my way over to the men's room. Just before entering, I happened to catch sight of two men having a heated argument. I wasn't paying much attention until I saw that one of them, who was obviously the aggressor, was brandishing a very large pistol. The moment I noticed his gun, he noticed me...noticing his gun. The look he gave me told me that he wasn't pleased by my presence, and all of his attention suddenly shifted to me. I tried not to make eye contact, but it was too late. He quickly swung the barrel of his gun in my direction and said "Hey! Come here!" I thought to myself: 'There is No way in Hell I'm going over there', averted my eyes and briskly walked around the corner, into the bathroom.

The last thing I saw, out of the corner of my eye, was him walking after me, very quickly, with his gun still raised.

Just around the corner from him, my mind quickly raced with the dangerous situation I was now in; I was walking into a completely enclosed area, with an armed man following me. If he had the intention to shoot me, I would, literally, be trapped prey. That was unacceptable. I had to do something. Knowing that he would be rounding the corner at any moment, I flatted myself against the wall, just at the entrance, and waited. I was not about to give this guy the chance to toy with me. The moment he would come in sight, I was going to lunge at his gun-wielding arm and do my best to disarm him, before he could get off a shot. ...It did not go according to plan.

I didn't even have a chance to lunge at him. He quickly stepped around the corner, leading with the pistol, but just far enough away from the wall to be slightly out of my reach. The moment I saw him, and just as I was making my desperate reach for his wrist, he fired a single shot. The sound was deafening, and I felt the impact as a hard 'thunk' against my forehead, which snapped my head backward on my neck and threw me to the floor. For a moment, all I could see was the ceiling.

I was still 'conscious' (as much as one could be, in a non-lucid dream), but I quickly found out that I had lost all feeling in my lower body. I could do nothing but lay there, in a terrified haze, wondering about the extent of my injury. I knew I wasn't dead - yet - and I wondered if the bullet had just grazed me. My arms could move just a little, but they were numb and weighted, taking all my strength just to barely move them. I think I remember calling out for help, but I'm not sure. Seconds later, J came into my view. Immediately, she began screaming and crying out for help.  She reached down to me and hurriedly started dragging me out of the bathroom hallway by one arm, into more public view.

Now outside, in the open, she began to frantically wail for help. (My friend has anxiety issues, and it had completely consumed her, in this dream.) I was able to turn my head, just a little, and saw that the few people walking around us weren't really paying much attention. She dropped down beside me and put an arm around the back of my head, cradling it. I could hear her sobbing, saying something like "Your..your brain..your brain his coming out!" This put me into a panic, but I was so 'numb', that I couldn't really even freak out about it. I pleaded to her to call 911, but she was the one who was freaking out; so much so, that she couldn't even compose herself enough to register the thought of calling the paramedics. She just held me to her, screaming for help.

I begged, over and over, in a weak, sedated voice: "Call them! Please!" I even mustered all the strength I could to put a limp, unfeeling hand into my pocket to pull out my cellphone. When I tried to push it over to her, it was like she didn't even notice it. She just kept holding me and looking around, screaming for someone to help us. From the way she was holding me, I could tell that the exit wound in my head was massive, and I was quickly becoming a gruesome mess, right there on the pavement. Finally, still fighting against a full-body numbness, I lifted my cellphone onto my stomach and fumbled around with the screen, trying to unlock it. Unable to do so, I decided to use the Emergency Call feature and was able to bring up the dial pad. Unfortunately, all I could see was a jumble of letters, numbers and illegible symbols. Surely, I figured, the bullet had scrambled my brain, and I was no longer able to read. I knew that I would be dead soon. (That would have been a wonderful clue that I was dreaming, if, you know, I wasn't too preoccupied with the thought that I was dying.)

Dropping the phone, I again pleaded with J to go find help; to call 911; to do something! As I was talking, I could see that a bloody piece of my jawbone had broken off and rolled down my chest and onto the ground. The large caliber bullet had, apparently, shattered my entire skull. I wondered what was holding it together at all. After some more breathless pleading, I was able to get her to leave me long enough to find help, and I could see her, through the window of the steakhouse, rushing around with her hands in the air, trying like hell to get anyone to help her. Most people just kind of waived her off and went back to their meals.

Eventually, she ran back to me with a couple of slightly-interested staff members walking, nonchalantly, behind her. She took up her previous position, pulling my head up to her and cradling it, and sobbing over me. The staff members just looked down at me like: "Hmm. Well. That sucks. Maybe we should do something?" I asked J if she was able to call EMS, while she was inside. She said she didn't, and went on to say something about how she was freaking out and wouldn't even know what to say to them.

Frustrated and weak, I was losing all hope and could feel my consciousness slipping away from me. Suddenly, I felt a distinct lightness in my head, and heard sort of a *sploosh* sound, beneath me. J immediately squirmed and I could hear her begin to panic even more. She screamed: "It...it fell out! It just fell out!" By this, I instinctively knew that my brain - or what was left of it - had just fallen out of my head and onto the ground, remaining connected merely by the strands of my nervous system.

Despair completely set in. I knew I was about to die. I thought about my family, and how much I just wanted to see them one more time, even if only so that I knew that they were aware of what happened. Once more, in vain, I tried to beg J to call 911, but I could no longer speak. I could only gurgle as my mouth and throat quickly began filling up with blood. On top of it all, I was going to drown on my own fluids. Any bit of fight in me that remained finally faded away, and I resigned to my inevitable death.

(I suddenly woke up, sleeping on the couch. Immediately, and in utter disbelief, I reached up and touched the back of my head, relieved to feel that it was still in one piece.

What a freaking TRIP. I couldn't sleep well, after that, and spent the rest of the early morning tossing and turning. I figure the likely inspirations for the dream to be: Switching between watching X-2 and Transformers 3, as I was falling asleep. One of the last X-2 scenes I saw was Wolverine getting shot in the head, and I think the relationship between Sam and his girl, in T3, put emphasis on the date/emotional aspect of the dream. Also, a selfie pic by J was one of the last things I'd seen on Facebook, before bed, so I'm pretty sure that's why it dragged her into the mix. Not a good way to start my Monday morning, though...)

"Burning Bridges" - 11/25/2013 (Lucid + Chain)

"Burning Bridges"
11/25/2013
(Lucid + Chain)

Part 1:
At the end of a walkway, leading from my house, was a small courtyard and a brick tunnel. Atop the tunnel’s entrance was a platform, and atop that platform lived a very large dragon.

The dragon, it turns out, was Smaug, from the tale of The Hobbit. (My daughter and I had just watched the trailer together, the day before this dream). Whenever someone would try to get through the tunnel, he would stop them – not for any real reason. Simply because he could. At first, all anyone could really see was the shadowy outline of his face while he sat in the dark. He seemed to enjoy the seclusion and didn’t really make it a point to make himself seen if he didn’t have to. As far as I know, he just liked sitting up there and blocking people from using his pathway because it gave him something to do. He was always excessively douchey about it, and talked as if he was a god among insects. Needless to say, he wasn’t very well-liked in the neighborhood. I can’t remember why, but I ended up having to use the tunnel, one night, so I came up to it, peering into the darkness at the monster that I knew resided there.

Of course, Ol’ Smaug wasn’t having it. When I tried to reason with him as to why it would be alright to let me use the tunnel, he would exhale an intense stream of fire in my direction. Stepping off to one side of the flame – seeking refuge behind one of the nearby brick columns - I got a view of him from an angle, and it was then that I could see how enormous this dragon actually was. As much as it frustrated me that he was simply being belligerent, I had to be careful with what I said, because I knew he could have easily swallowed me whole, if he wanted to. This encounter happened at least twice, and he was just as big a jerk, the second time around.

The third time, however, was different. On my way to the tunnel (I still can’t remember my reason for trying to go through it), I began thinking through how my encounter with the intimidating dragon was going to go. It was in this moment of thinking through my situation that I realized how incredible this situation actually was; how absurd it was that I was about to encounter a dragon. I realized that this was only possible because I was dreaming. The light-switch in my head came on, and I quickly became lucid.

Any fear I might have had of the dragon completely vanished. Instead, I started calling him out as I walked down the pathway toward his perch. I had faced dragons in my lucid dreams before, and I was feeling enough in control that I was ready for a little face-off with this self-righteous beast. We had a short exchange of words (that I don’t really remember), and he was soon spreading his huge wings and taking flight, charging at me while bellowing flames in my direction. Unlike my last, lucid, dragon encounter (where I put up my hand and created a force-field to block its fire), I simply braced myself and leaned directly into his fire stream, allowing the fire to wash over me, defiantly and painlessly, solidifying my confidence in the knowledge that this was my dream and Smaug could not harm me. Boy, did that piss him off.

He repeatedly dove in toward me and I took flight as well; launching, dashing and strafing in all aerial directions, constantly dodging his advances and daring him to try to burn me –  just before, of course, simply allowing the fire to pass over me again. I was having a great time at his expense, and he was hating it. Each passing moment, though, made me all the more confident in my control. There was a pool in the yard, and I descended toward it, coming to levitate with my feet just a few inches over the water. For merely a moment, I had my doubts about whether or not I would be able to maintain elevation over the pool (which often happens while flying), but I was able to stay focused and square off with him again, hovering just over the water's surface.

We played a little bit more Cat and Mouse, but when he came to realize that he just wasn’t gaining any ground with me, he finally gave up the chase. Frustrated, Smaug actually thought it best to strike up something of a friendship with me. He gave me my respect for being a tougher challenge than he was anticipating, and we seemed to get along, somewhat, after that; there was still an air of animosity between us, though, even though we were civil to each other. At one point, there was a small party in the yard that we came to share, and Smaug used his fire-breath to BBQ a cow for us. We would spend some time flying around, and I found myself just kind of marveling at what an incredible creature he was. When he would fly in the distance, I could see how enormous his wingspan was. (He reminded me a lot of the big bull dragon from Reign of Fire. He was just that massive.) Things seemed to be going fairly well, though, for a while. Smaug seemed to loosen up a bit, and there was actually one time when I caught him singing to himself. Haha. He became more open to interacting with other people, as well. It was around here that I began losing lucidity, and just fell into the story line.

All the niceties vanished, though, when a large group of people decided that they wanted to slay the dragon.

Unbeknownst to me, a band of townsfolk (it's hard to tell if they were modern or medieval. The dream seemed to have interchanging elements of both time periods) had approached the tunnel and caught Smaug completely unaware. They used some kind of catapults or 'launchers' to hurl spears at the dragon, severely injuring him, but not killing him. (I believe I watched this part, disembodied, because I wasn't actually 'there' when it happened.) When I finally showed up, after learning about what happened, I went looking for Smaug. His attackers had already left the scene. There was a great tree that towered over the yard, and I had a feeling he might be up there. I flew up to the top of this gigantic tree (I was no longer lucid, that I can think of, but still kept my ability to fly), and I could see him there, nestled among the thick, twisting branches, with a large number of the spears still sticking out of various parts of his body. He was curled up as if he were trying to sleep off the pain.

At first, he acted as if I wasn't there, hovering next to him. I tried to speak with him - to tell him that I came to him as a friend and to see if he was alright. He ignored me, still. I tried again, telling him that I knew nothing of the attack, and that even though I was one of 'them' (human), he could trust me when I said that I had nothing to do with it. Obviously, completely unconvinced, he let out a deep, trembling growl at me which, without words, told me to leave him the hell alone. I was guilty by association, and he wanted nothing more to do with me.

"Fine," I said, a bit hurt that he would have thought of me in that way, and I flew off.

(I woke up for a moment and attempted to do a WBTB and have another lucid dream. I ended up dropping back into the same story, but with no lucidity, this time.)

"Burning Bridges"
Pt. 2
I was back in the same setting as the previous dream. Smaug was out of the area, and some of us humans were having another get-together in the yard. Even though I wasn't lucid, I still had my ability to fly (as if it was a normal thing. Lol) and some telekinesis, which I periodically used during the night. My mom and her boyfriend were there and, sooner or later, I got to talking to them about my interactions with Smaug and what had happened to our brief friendship. My mom (who hadn't been in the previous dream) was skeptical of the whole 'dragon' thing. She didn't believe that I knew - let-alone talked to - a dragon. Waving off her skepticism, I began thinking to myself about how I really wanted to patch up this misunderstand with Smaug.

I drew upon my telekinesis and attempted to use it sort of like Dragonrend, in Skyrim, to call Smaug back from wherever he was. I really didn't know whether or not he would actually show up, but what I really wasn't ready for was for him to come crashing down through the branches of the great tree, above us, and landing with an earth-quaking 'Boom', feet-first, off to one corner of the party. From the look on his face, I could tell that he was quite surprised, too.

My mother took one look at the dragon and immediately screamed. Both she and her boyfriend bolted for the nearest exit from the yard, which was just passed Smaug; meaning that they had to cross his path in order to reach it. The dragon, still apparently startled by his having been summoned, suddenly shifted himself to face the frantic humans approaching him. As if by complete reflex, he lifted one, giant, hind leg and booted my mom across the entire front of her face and body, knocking her off to one side, unconscious. I ran over to her and held her up to me, trying to revive her.

Smaug - who had just been on self-defense mode - leaned over me, softening his expression and realizing what he'd done in error. After a short silence, he began to apologize. He said something like: "....I didn't mean to--" and I cut him off. I was furious, and assumed that his action stemmed from his hatred of 'us', and that he did what he did out of spite - not because he thought he was being attacked again. That table had turned, and I didn't want to speak to him at all. Figuring that I wasn't to be reasoned with, he was the one who took off, this time, and I don't remember anything after his flying away.
